Falling from Grace: Arod’s Need for Perfection
Falling from Grace: Arod’s Need for Perfection
I heard a newscaster report that Arod’s teammates have a history of thinking that he’s a phony. His need to be above and beyond most others enabled him to convince himself that he would get away with it. The Yankee is another fine example of the tyranny of perfection. It underscores how we need to pay attention to those ways in which we internalize and give in to the messages that we aren’t “good enough,” and in Arod’s case, “excellent enough.”
Don’t buy in to the insidious thoughts that spur on this mind set. Think about those ways in which you resist saying “good enough.” Think about your resistance again, but this time imagine some way that your resistance dissipates, creating an opening for you.
