Bravo! As a psychologist who helps women break free from food and weight struggles, I resonate with your post on both personal and professional levels. We ALL benefit from the reminder that staying connected with ourselves—even in the face of intimidation and arrogance is empowering. In addition, the inner capacities you champion—the ability to avoid right/wrong thinking traps, to stay compassionate and connected with our self and to respect our own voice, and to honor and feel confident in our own strengths—these are key areas for women struggling to end battles with weight and and seeking to make peace with food. Thanks for the post.

I believe that we can only think we are “wrong” when we buy into the belief that others are “right”. The same approach as science. We have no middle without discovering the ends. It is only when we open ourselves enough to question the other person and open ourselves to question ourselves, that we understand. Wouldn’t it be cool to have someone say- “Oh, I thought i heard this my way but what did you hear?” Perhaps the need to be listened to and taken seriously is more important than being “right” or “wrong”. Good data needs the whole picture.

Wow. Struck a deep chord with me. Such an important part of my therapy has been the very difficult recognition that sometimes I am right, and not always wrong and that I have permission to speak and voice my opinion. And truthfully when it all comes down at the end of the day, I am learning that it isn’t about right or wrong but either learning and recognizing that others see things differently than I. But that doesn’t devalue my opinion or belief, I am learning to understand.
